Cost

How much does the ARB cost?
The ARB is free to New Zealand educational professionals. Only standard online charges that you pay for your access to the Internet apply.

Problems with access

How do I get a password?
Click on the 'Register to use the ARBs' link on the top right of the ARB Homepage, or go straight to the registration page. Complete the form and send it to NZCER by clicking on the 'Click when finished' button at the bottom of the page. A UserID and a password will be emailed back to you within 3 working days.

What do I do if I have registered but I have not received a password after 3 working days?
Your email address may have been typed in incorrectly (an email address has to be entirely accurate for it to work). Complete the registration form again, and a password will be sent to you.
Your email may not be set up correctly.  Talk to your Information Technology person.

What do I do if I have forgotten my UserID and password?
All teachers in New Zealand schools use the same password, so ask a colleague first or email rachael.kearns@nzcer.org.nz.

The ARB address (URL) does not locate the ARB page.
Check that the URL is accurate. It has to be exact for it to work, e.g., all dots, dashes, and capitals must be accurate. The URL is: http://www.nzcer.org.nz/arb/  or http://arb.nzcer.org.nz/.
The server could be down and therefore a connection is not being made. Try again later.
Your modem may not be connected or could have disconnected. Check your modem.

Sometimes I can't login to the Internet.
Sometimes all the lines are busy at your Internet service provider and you will not be able to get a connection. Try again later.

Problems with searching the banks

I get the error message "No such property" when I try to go to the next page of search results.
If you get this error message, try pressing the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button. If this does not work, try doing the search again.

I cannot get to the search pages of the banks.
The buttons that give access to the banks are located on the left-hand side of the screen. Clicking on one of these buttons should give you access to that bank.
English Bank     Maths Bank     Science Bank

I get the error message "The parameter is incorrect" when I try to do a search.
This problem can be solved by changing the browser setting from NZ English to US English.

  • To do this in Netscape, go to: 'Edit', 'Preferences','Select Languages' (under the 'Navigator' category).  Press 'Add'; scroll down and select 'English [en]' and press 'OK'.  Press the up arrow so it's first in order then press 'OK'.

  • To do this in Internet Explorer go to: 'Tools, Internet Options'.  Under the General tab click the 'Languages' button at the bottom.  Press the 'Add' button, scroll down and select 'English (United States) [en-us]', press 'OK'.  Press the 'Move Up' button so it's the first language;  Press 'OK' twice.

I cannot see the drop-down menus.
You need to turn your JavaScript on. You can do this in Internet Explorer by doing the following:

  • choose 'Internet Options' from the 'Tools' menu.
  • click on the tab called 'Security'.
  • click the button called 'Custom Level' and scroll down to a heading called 'Active scripting'.
  • make sure that 'Active scripting is 'Enabled'.
  • click the 'OK button' and then click on the 'OK' button in the 'Internet Options' dialog box.
  • reload the page (CTR R) to see the menu drop down menu appear.

Sometimes when I am searching for resources, none appear.
If you have chosen a search by too many categories, there may not be any resources that fit all those categories. Try a simpler search, e.g., strand and level only.
Sometimes there are resources available but the search engine does not locate them immediately. Try pressing the 'Refresh' or 'Reload' button on your browser navigation bar at the top of the page. Then try your search again. Try this several times if it does not work the first time.

Problems with printing

When resources print they are out of line.
Try changing the margins in your browser to make them smaller or larger, e.g., 'File','Page Setup','Margins'.

When graphics are printed they are only partially visible.
Try upgrading your browser and printer driver software to more recent versions.

Is it possible to print groups of resources at one time?
Yes, it is. There is a My Folder option which allows you to select resources, put them in a folder, and then print them together as a set.
Visit the My Folder page for more information.

Problems with graphics

Graphics do not display on the screen properly.
Our website is optimized for an 800 by 600 or higher resolution with 16 bit (million) colours or more. Although the site will still be viewable in smaller resolutions, it will require to scroll sideways to view each webpage. Colours may not look right in lower colour settings than 16 bit, they may appear washed out or dithered. You can change the resolution or colour setting in the 'Display Properties' dialog box. This can be found by right clicking on your desktop and choosing 'Properties'. Alternatively you could talk to the person who is responsible for maintaining your computer to change or check these settings.

Another reason for graphics not being displayed correctly may be a problem with your computer's graphic driver and it may need to be setup again. This problem will affect not just our website, but all graphics displayed in your monitor.

Graphics sometimes take a long time to load.
The graphics on the NZCER site have been optimised for fast loading times,
The software and hardware you are using may be old and therefore slow.
If they do not load correctly, then something may be wrong with your Internet connection. This could be due to fluctuations in the number of people logged into the Internet. Try again later.
